Anxious People - Fredrik Backman
This was the January pick for my neighborhood and we were all very excited for it. Not only did it have great reviews, but we joked about how apt a book called “Anxious People” was in the current times. Unfortunately, most of us agreed that the book was not all the reviews had hyped it up to be. Personally, I found it very difficult to get through; I felt the third person writing at times was very bizarre, and I also hated the interview scenes. I’m not sure if something got lost in translation, but I really didn’t fully grasp the anxiousness of the people, despite what was going on. I did feel the last few chapters redeemed the book slightly, but not enough for me to actually recommend this book to anyone. I was actually really disappointed, because I read My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry and REALLY enjoyed it. Bummed I can’t say the same for this book.
